New Job Vacancy: Peer Support Mentor

Location: Parenting 2000 Offices in Southport, Merseyside

Salary: £18,037 pa, 35 hours per week (full time) plus company pension.

Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2024. Continuation will be subject to funding.

We are seeking a Peer Support Mentor to join us in a new out of hours Crisis Café service for people looking for support having experienced, or are experiencing a mental health crisis.

As someone who has had personal experience of using Mental Health Services, you will work as part of the Crisis Café Team, providing support to people who access the service.

This role includes working the evenings that the Southport Crisis Café will be open: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 5pm to 11pm to offer individual and group support to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Sefton CVS will act as the lead agency and will establish a Mental Health Voluntary Sector Alliance to underpin this development.

Crisis Café Information

This is an exciting opportunity to establish a Crisis Café providing an alternative access point for people requiring out of hours support for people experiencing symptoms of mental illness which may result in crisis without support.

The Southport Crisis Café will be based at our Alchemy Premises on Mornington Road, Southport.

The inequality priorities for the Southport Crisis Café will be Middle Aged Men and Older Adults.

An open referral process will apply with individuals over the age of 18 being able to self-refer into the café.

The crisis café team will provide two core functions:

  • A place of safety and support for those at high risk of self- harm or suicide who would otherwise attend A&E
  • Peer Support workers who will be experts by experience and will develop self-help and diversionary activities for clients and act as Mental Health champions.

The Crisis Café Hub will be easily accessible by public transport in off high street town centre location.

The service will be delivered from the Café Hub on Friday. Saturday and Sunday evenings and outreach sessions will be held in other venues.

Staffing will be a combination of both paid staff and volunteer support The Café will have a core staff team with a service manager.

All staff will be expected to provide client facing support.

Sessional activities will be drawn in from the wider Alliance to complement the offer available from the core team.
